Representative Weighs Congressional Run

Representative Sean Garballey, a Democrat from Arlington, is considering a run for Congress if U.S. Representative Ed Markey wins a U.S. Senate seat in a June 25 special election.

Three senators, one representative and a sheriff in the district have already established campaigns, allowing them to begin fundraising.

The Fifth Massachusetts District is filled with congressional aspirants. Sens. Karen Spilka (D-Ashland), Katherine Clark (D-Melrose) and William Brownsberger (D-Belmont) and Rep. Carl Sciortino (D-Medford) have all established campaigns for Markey’s seat, as has Middlesex Sheriff Peter Koutoujian.

Garballey was first elected to the House in a March 2008 special election, when he was 23.
