Massachusetts Unemployment Rate Down to 6 Percent

The Massachusetts unemployment rate fell to 6 percent from 6.3 percent in May, well below the national jobless rate of 8.2 percent.  The Patrick administration, citing Bureau of Labor Statistics estimates, also reported that Massachusetts added 7,500 jobs last month, after employers added 1,700 jobs in April.

This year, Massachusetts has added 37,800 jobs. The state’s over-the-year job gains figure is 37,100, which also reflects job losses during 2011. Sectors that have posted over-the-year job losses include construction (4,700), government (3,800), and financial activities (2,200).
